Hehe, thanks guys.  NWSenior, I say 6x, because running TG on one core gives an improvement of slightly over 3x.  When TG2 is multithreaded, I'll get the real thing Wink.

So if I run TG off of only one of my cores it will improve render times?

The OS should actually manage that for you.  When running TG, I look at my processor monitor and see that it's using both cores, but neither is used to capacity.  Thus, I really just get a total of 1 core's worth of performance.  Even if you assign it a specific core, I doubt that will help with render times.

Well, this may be a dead topic, but my  machine is still very much alive... The slowest machine in this community by a mile I suspect:
800Mhz iMac G4 (15" screen and 768Mb RAM, 60Gb harddisk)
Like this one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMac_G4
A 800x600 render in TG2 takes about 2 hours as long as I keep the detail level down and don't add too many complex objects.

Sorry to dampen your party but your machine is not even close to the lowest spec on the block.

I run a PII 300MHz, 128Mb RAM, 8GB HHD, Win98 (gold, not even SE) PC.  The monitor is a 15" CRT at 1024x768.

It only runs TG 0.x and non too fast at that but it's not the kit that counts, it's what you can get out of the software.

lovemark - That's actually a pretty good machine - my sister has that exact box.

stuck - I feel like you would be able to find a box on eBay for $50 shipped that would double your performance at least... Wink.

You know that a 1 TB disk (1000 GB for the innocent bystander) is now available for "only" $100, which is pretty cheap...

Nope...well yeah, about 6 months ago when the old bird died, but am still stuck with underpowered Power[350W]so have to replace that at the same time as a video card to free up my RAM which is being used by my OMB video so really I render with less than the 3MB I have installed...frustrating but fixed incomes being what they are this senior just gets by.. ...
